The Maitri Express train left Dhaka Cantonment Station at 8:15 am on Sunday after completing the immigration-customs of the passengers. After that, the last station of the border country will reach Chuadanga district at 1:40 pm. After a 20-minute break here, the train will cross the Bangladesh border at 2 pm and leave for Kolkata. Then stop at Chitpur station in Kolkata at 4 pm.
Similarly, the return train from Chitpur station will leave for Dhaka on Monday (May 30) at 8:10 am Indian time. You will cross the border at 10:10 am Bangladesh time and reach Darshana station. And from here you will leave for Dhaka at 10:30.
Thus, this Dhaka-Kolkata Maitri Express train will run between Dhaka-Kolkata for 7 days except Thursday of the week. That means he will go to Kolkata from Dhaka on Sunday and return on Monday. There will be two trains on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. These days one will go and another will come back.
Trains will be closed only on Thursdays. The 20-minute stop at Darshana station will be for engine, guard, crew change and buffet meals for passengers only. In addition, you will stop at Ishwardi station for 15 minutes for watering. And at the Gendi Border Station in India, you will stand for 10 minutes for the Scottish Forces (BSF). However, the train will have a gate lock. No one will be able to get up and down anywhere. Buffet and other meals are available on the train.
The only passenger Maitri Express train between Dhaka and Kolkata started on April 14, 2006. At that time, immigration customs was carried out at the railway station at Darshan and Gende on the border between the two countries.
After that, in order to reduce the travel time of the passengers, according to the state decision of the two countries, from November 10, 2017, instead of the immigration-customs border station Darshana and Gend, the journey point is started from Dhaka Cantonment and Chitpur station of Kolkata. This Maitri Express train has 10 coaches in its fleet. All coaches are air-conditioned. The Maitri has an average of 400 passengers on each journey. About 5 lakh passengers have come and gone since the start of the journey, according to the railway authorities. Passengers from different countries of the world including Bangladesh and India will be able to travel and travel in this train.
It is learned that the pre-determined rent is still in force. In other words, on 12 February 2020, the railway authorities of the two countries re-fixed the fare of Maitri train. The distance from Dhaka to Kolkata is 538 km. The fare for AC seat is Tk. 3,605 and the fare for AC chair is Tk. 2,570. However, for children from 1 to 5 years, there is a 50 percent discount. In this case age is determined according to the passport. Meanwhile, Maitri train tickets are available only from Kamalapur and Chittagong railway stations. The original copy of the passport along with the visa must be shown at the time of ticketing.
In the current situation, RTPCR’s 72-hour corona negative certificate or two-dose corona ticker certificate must be shown while traveling in Maitri.
